Gangamaya Rai 36 an MDR TB patient from Birathnagar. She has had to move away from home (600km away) and leave her two children. She frequently suffers from depression being isolated from her family in this way. Other patients find solace in their family but she is too far from any TB program and must live in town.

She is 17 and was risking stopping school so she could continue her treatment. She shifted to the DOTS clinic, which opened earlier at 8am so she could continue her schooling. She has just finished her category 2 treatment and her body is responding, but she is very scared it will not work and she has to give up school. She is the eldest of four children and her mother cares for them on her own by working carrying bricks on a construction site.
